  • Neuropathic Pain
  • Significant Enhancement in Mood and Overall Quality of Life - Often Achieved Within Hours of Treatment

At Therafusion, we offer three different modes of IV ketamine therapy: at home, at our New York City infusion clinic, and in the offices of therapists and counselors for ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP). Our medical team works side by side with many psychiatrist and psychotherapist offices in the NYC area to create custom-tailored ketamine therapy treatment plans for patients affected by depression, anxiety, and PTSD. For patients who work with their therapists online, our at-home option allows for KAP in the comfort and privacy of their own homes.

The program begins with an initial consultation and health assessment with the patient. During this visit, Therafusion founder and medical director Dr. Mo Al-Samrrai will thoroughly review the patient’s medical history and become familiar with their experience with depression/anxiety/PTSD to determine whether ketamine infusion therapy is the right treatment. Contact our concierge clinic in New York, NY for more information on this therapeutic approach.

While other practices offer different forms of ketamine therapy, such as sublingual ketamine tablets and nasal esketamine sprays, Therafusion only provides ketamine intravenously, as we believe it is the safest, most effective, and most practical option for patients.

IV ketamine is the only form of ketamine that is 100% bioavailable, 100% of the time. Intramuscular ketamine is around 93% bioavailable depending on where it is injected and the amount of fatty tissue/muscle mass at the injection site. Oral ketamine bioavailability ranges from around 17 – 29%, depending on where the tablet is dissolved in the patient’s mouth. The bioavailability values of intranasal ketamine come in at an even wider range at around 8 – 45%, depending on the thickness and vascular permeability of the mucosal layer and how much mucus is present in the nose. In these cases, it is impossible for providers to determine just how much ketamine actually becomes available for system circulation. However, with IV ketamine, we know the exact number of milligrams of ketamine that have entered the patient’s bloodstream, which then crosses the blood-brain barrier.

As IV ketamine is also the most bioavailable form of ketamine, we are able to administer the minimal effective dose, which minimizes the patient’s risk for developing liver, kidney, and bladder issues. Additionally, because IV ketamine is slowly administered over the course of a 40 – 60 minute infusion, we are able to stop the treatment at any time if the patient becomes too overwhelmed or develops an adverse reaction. Dr. Al-Samrrai and our medical providers are also able to adjust the dosage or infusion rate at any time. With the other forms of ketamine therapy, the entire dose is given in a single go, so even if the patient changes their mind midway, there is no way to stop the treatment or reduce the dosage. IV ketamine therapy gives a more controlled and consistent experience, translating into the most clinically optimal outcomes for patients.
